Shipping and Transportation Update We have great news from the San Diego offices for Delta Air Cargo and U.S. Post Office. The management of both organizations are aware of our show and are making special provisions as needed for support, especially on Saturday Jan. 8. Transportation to/from airport Wednesday Jan. 5, noon-11 pm (primary day to send birds) Everyone needs to tell us you’re coming in advance so we can be prepared. Contact Co-Superintendent Clarence Legg by email at clarencelegg@att.net with your name/contact info/flight/expected cargo info. You can call by phone if necessary at 619.659.9420. The primary phone contact for the driver at this time is 619.490.0097. We will update this page with additional phones or information as they occur, so revisit this page. The main purpose of this service is to help carry your pigeons (we’ll pick you up too if you are riding along with them!). If you’re coming to the show as a non-exhibitor or coming during other times/dates, contact Super Shuttle (www.supershuttle.com or 800.258.3826) who will provide you the 7-mile, 10-minute short trip to/from the hotel. They will take your pigeon carriers as well. The cost is $11 each way but may charge more with large carriers and excess luggage. Delta Air Cargo and air travel The average cost for shipping by air to San Diego right now is $125 each way per carrier. The local Delta Air Cargo office assures us they will have personnel prepared to take birds with advance reservations going out on Saturday evening, but we must be there NLT 8 p.m. They will go out on the red-eye flight and on a connection flight, and get delivered to your destination on Sunday. Check the Delta airlines by calling Pets First at 888.736.3738. We will be ready to take your birds when everyone is checked out at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8. Most exhibitors prefer Delta because they offer the least restrictions for carrying pigeons. They have eliminated the requirement for an acclimation veterinarian letter; you assume responsibility. Here’s their actual policy. But, there is one important rule that hasn’t changed. If the return trip to your home is below 20 degrees at time of shipment Saturday night, they won’t ship it. They haven’t waived that rule. Please prepare a back-up plan if birds cannot go out if you think that could happen. We cannot keep birds Sunday or beyond without some plan where to put them. Post Office Town & Country Hotel Make sure you inform Clarence Legg if you are shipping by Post office (see contact info above). On the return delivery Saturday, we will arrange transportation but you must provide advance payment and addressing information. If the cardboard carrying box is damaged, we might need a new one and need you to pay an extra amount for that. The Post Office is making a special provision to find aircraft leaving San Diego or Los Angeles Saturday night/Sunday morning. This is a special arrangement for our show. We’ll update this information as we get it. Postal delivery usually takes longer than air cargo. |
