San Diego County Fair Information - Pigeons

We sponsor and encourage participation in the San Diego County Fair to promote our hobby.  It is held during the month of June of each year in Del Mar, California.  Exhibitor entry forms should be coming out the middle of March.  Keep an eye out for them here.

    The Small Animal Show Rules and State and Local Rules apply to this Department. Read them carefully.


    1. All birds will be judged in accordance with the latest standards adopted by the leading specialty clubs of America. Where no American Standard is in vogue, the latest European Standard will be used. Only recognized colors will be considered in "Any Color" (A.C.) or "Any Other Color" (A.O.C.) Divisions. List color on entry form.

    2. Any recognized breed or variety not listed will be judged as one division, regardless of number of entries, breed, variety or color. Breed and color must be specified on entry form.

    3. All young birds must be identified by a current year seamless leg band of correct size, serially numbered, conforming with the entry form. Old birds must have either seamless or split prior year, serially numbered bands, conforming with the entry form. Birds will be shown and judged ONLY in the proper division and class for breed, variety, age and sex. If no division is offered, no awards may be made. Disqualified birds and those absent at the time of judging do not count when computing the number of exhibitors in the class.

    Young Cock and Young Hen: 2012 Hatch

    Note: Birmingham Rollers - Classes for flying rollers will accept flying rollers ONLY. All others will be disqualified. Classes for show rollers will accept show rollers ONLY. All others will be disqualified.

    The following Special Awards are offered to the breeds having the largest number of entries:

    Trophy for Best in Show and Reserve of Show.
    Rosettes to the Champion of each of the first 5 breeds having the largest number of entries per Division and of the Miscellaneous

    Division.

    Classes judged Danish receive no premiums, unless otherwise stated.

    SAN DIEGO METROPOLITAN PIGEON CLUB offers Champion Trophies to any breed with 20 or more birds to Club members in Open Divisions. No exhibitor shall receive more than 2 cash awards in one class.
